Awakening

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Awakening captures a quiet moment suspended between sleep and consciousness, where imagination begins to awaken before the body fully follows.

An elderly man rests with his head upon folded arms while a small bird stands lightly on his shoulder, as though announcing the arrival of a new morning. Whether the bird belongs to the outer world or exists only within the dream remains deliberately unresolved. Its presence transforms an ordinary gesture of rest into a poetic encounter between memory, hope, and renewal.

Executed with energetic pen and pencil lines, the drawing embraces spontaneity rather than precision. Every stroke remains visible, allowing the viewer to follow the artist's hand as the image gradually emerges from the white paper. The vitality of the line becomes inseparable from the emotional life of the subject.

The man's gentle expression carries neither fatigue nor sorrow. Instead, it suggests quiet trust—a willingness to remain open to beauty, even in the smallest and most unexpected forms. The bird becomes a subtle symbol of awakening: not only from sleep, but toward attentiveness, kindness, and the quiet miracles of everyday life.

Without dramatic narrative or explicit symbolism, Awakening invites each viewer to discover a personal meaning within its simplicity, reminding us that renewal often arrives softly and without announcement.
